How to start a private label cat litter brand.

Short answer

To launch a private label cat litter brand, choose a manufacturer that owns its factory, pick a formula, granule size and fragrance for your market, design packaging in your customers' languages, approve samples and a pre-production run, then place your first order. With FELUXE the minimum order is 24 tons, one full truckload, in 5L or 10L retail packs or 1-ton bulk bags under your own brand.

Cat litter is a repeat purchase: a cat owner who likes your litter buys it every few weeks. That makes it a good product for a distributor, retailer or online seller to put their own name on. This guide walks through each step, from choosing a factory to your first shipment.

1. Decide who you are selling to

Your channel shapes every later choice. Pet shops and vet clinics favour premium, low-dust litter with a clear quality story. Supermarkets want a strong price per litre and packs that stack well. Online marketplaces such as Noon and Amazon.ae in the Gulf, or Wildberries and Ozon in Russia and Central Asia, reward clear product photos, honest specs and good reviews. Know your channel and target shelf price before you talk to a factory.

2. Choose a manufacturer, not a trader

Your brand is only as reliable as the factory behind it. A manufacturer that owns its bentonite mine and plant controls quality from batch to batch and can keep supplying as you grow. Ask for ISO 9001 and any veterinary or health licence, a full technical data sheet and samples. Our guides to choosing a cat litter supplier and reading a spec sheet cover what to check.

3. Pick the formula

Most brands start with one or two products and add more once the first sells well. These are the three FELUXE formulas, all made from natural sodium bentonite, and who each one suits:

FormulaWhat it offersGood for
StandardUnscented, fast clumping, low dustA core product for every channel, and buyers who avoid fragrance
Activated CharcoalExtra odour controlMulti-cat homes, apartments and a premium price point
LavenderLight lavender scentShoppers who choose by fragrance, and standing out on the shelf

4. Set granule size and fragrance

Granule size changes how the litter feels and behaves. Finer granules clump more tightly; coarser ones track less around the home. FELUXE granules run from 0.6 to 3.1 mm and can be adjusted to your specification. Fragrance can be left out, set to lavender, or matched to a custom scent for your brand.

5. Design packaging for your market

Print the bag in your shoppers' languages: Arabic and English for the Gulf and Iraq, Russian and local languages for Central Asia and the Caucasus. Choose pack sizes that fit your channel; 5L and 10L bags suit most retail and online sales, and 1-ton bags suit repackers. Most bags carry:

  • Your brand name and the product type, such as "clumping bentonite cat litter".
  • Volume and net weight.
  • How to use it and how to dispose of it.
  • Country of origin, manufacturer and importer details.
  • A batch number and production date.

Labelling rules differ from country to country, so confirm the exact requirements with your importer or customs broker before the artwork is final.

6. Approve samples, then the pre-production run

Test samples at home and with a few trusted customers: clumping, dust, odour control and how the litter looks in the tray. Once you are happy, approve a pre-production sample and the final packaging proofs. Keep a sealed sample so you can compare it with every shipment later.

7. Place your first order

With FELUXE the minimum order is 24 tons, one full truckload, in 5L or 10L retail packs or 1-ton bulk bags. Our plant produces 10,000 tons a month, so reorders can grow with your sales. We handle export documents and shipping by truck or container to your city or port.

Costs to budget for

  • The litter itself, quoted per ton or per bag.
  • Packaging: printed bags in your design. Ask whether there is a one-off cost for printing plates.
  • Freight to your city or port.
  • Import duties and any registration your country requires.
  • Trademark registration for your brand name in the markets you sell in.
  • Marketing: product photos, marketplace listings and in-store promotion.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Choosing a factory on price alone, then losing customers to inconsistent quality.
  • Skipping samples or never checking shipments against them.
  • Launching too many products at once instead of building one strong seller.
  • Packaging only in English for a market that reads Arabic or Russian.
  • Leaving the trademark until after launch.

Why brands work with FELUXE

FELUXE is made by Sanayeh Poodr Sangsar (SPS), an Iranian manufacturer founded in 1996 that mines its own natural sodium bentonite and runs every step to packing in its own plant. It is the only cat litter factory in Iran with the Iran Veterinary Organization License, and it holds ISO 9001, a compliance story you can print on your bag. Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order for private label cat litter?

At FELUXE the minimum order is 24 tons, one full truckload, in 5L or 10L retail packs or 1-ton bulk bags printed with your brand.

Can I use my own packaging design?

Yes. Your artwork and languages are printed on the bag, including Arabic and English or Russian on the same pack. You approve the final proofs before production.

Which cat litter should a new brand start with?

Many brands start with an unscented clumping bentonite litter, then add an activated charcoal or scented version once the first product sells well.

Do I need to register a trademark?

It is strongly recommended. Registering your brand name in the countries where you sell protects you from copies and is often required by large retailers and marketplaces.
